12/22/2023 0 Comments Ublock origin pale moon![]() The one suspect this happens might be within Mozilla browsers is DownThemAll extension but I'm not sure. And at it freezes like FF but not as often. Another draw back is that it seems only half of the extensions that work in FF doesn't work in SeaMonkey even at first they are installable. It's clunky in design and you spend more effort searching around to find options and it's features. If one can consider later versions FF ever feature friendly. It takes some time to get use to SeaMonkey because the UI is not has feature friendly like FF. My third browser option is Mozilla's SeaMonkey with NoScript, HTTPS everywhere, and UBlock enabled. So you're forced to install and use NoScript which is great but a real hassle to set up or to figure which javascript is needed for a particular feature on a webpage is need it to work forcing the page to reload every time temporary allowed for each individual script. ![]() Not to mention there is still no javascript option to disable it since FF 3.5. It takes FF to 200-220 MB from a cold start to finally open up. And while it freezes and I wait for it to unfreeze, I can watch how the memory for firefox.exe wildly goes up and down repeatedly from 50 MB to 240 MB on Windows Task Manager for as long as 15 min. I don't think my single core 2.2 GHz CPU can handle the latest version of FF at all. I can't use FF much because it tends to freeze up a lot. One problem is Ghostery which seems to have dropped support for Opera in favor of concentrating on FF and Chrome platforms. I do have it set up just like in Opera with nearly the same amount or like extensions and have javascript disabled. In no time I could be pushing beyond double of my memory's accepted capacity. Since I have an ancient PC, Opera has the least trouble and uses the least amount of resources. I also have javascript disabled with a whitelist for sites that need it. I use Opera as my main browser with ABP and have no problems. but if you got some time to burn you could play around with just using say the hosts file and if that works for you then you might not even need the rest of the stuff or have that with ublock etc etc and see what works best for you as i figure as a general guideline the less crap running on your computer in the background the generally all around smoother/faster it will be. Just some thoughts as with some of those things installed you should be in pretty good shape online and block a large portion of the junk. so you have to manually download it and load it up to be the most current. NOTE: the hosts file seems to get updated on that website about once every month or two with updated lists. and even this which is also free (it used to be pay software). uBlock/that hosts file) your good as that should block a large portion of the BS online. So basically anything on your computer trying to access any address that's listed in that host file simply won't be allowed to make the connection ) so in other words it will work on all browsers etc. I also use that hosts file to which i forgot to mention as the good thing about that is it blocks connections at the system level like already mentioned. you can tell whether YouTube is using HTML5 or Flash by right clicking a video that's playing as you will be able to tell whether it's using Flash or HTML5 pretty quickly that way based on what's displayed there. i don't even have Flash installed anymore as i just see it as a security risk especially if you primarily just use YouTube for videos and other places that support HTML5 for video playback like YouTube does. I have 8GB of system RAM so it won't be too much of a issue but for those who have 4GB of RAM or less i would definitely recommend Firefox over Chrome especially if you leave the browser open for a while and have multiple tabs open. One major area i prefer Firefox (and variations) over Chrome is system RAM usage is much better in Firefox (and variations) especially if you leave the browser running for days and have a bunch of tabs open like i do as Chrome is a RAM hog as that's probably the biggest complaint against it. but i prefer Pale Moon 圆4 as i have been using that for years now as my primary browser. You can use uBlock Origin on Firefox as that's basically what it's made for even though it does work on Pale Moon to.įirefox or Chrome is probably a safer recommendation to the average person in terms of browser recommendations.
